secrets of dollar street hOUSE

30-32 Dollar Street, formerly known as Dollar Street House, was developed by lawyer Joseph Pitt (known locally for his work at Pittville Spa in Cheltenham) in 1725 as two splendid private residences. Its more recent history has been a common one for Cirencester’s once-grand mansions: conversion into offices, with boardrooms replacing bedrooms and gardens making way for cars. Latterly, near dereliction left it on Historic England’s national register of heritage at risk. Cheltenham-based architect Charles Mullineux reveals what it took to rescue one of Cirencester’s most important historic buildings and restore it to its former glory, from original balustrades to Regency roof lanterns.
